A day doesn't go by that I don't peek inside one of our many cooking and culinary books. We have quite a few, but there are some that stand out. In specific, the always handy, awesome, and informative Food Lover's Companion by Sharon Tyler Herbst and Ron Herbst.
The original version of this book first came into my life as a student at the CIA. Since then, I've gotten the new and revised edition. It has been my go-to book whenever I need to learn something about some food item or whenever I feel like reading a bit. And let's just say, this book has seen many minutes inside a bathroom. ;-)
It's organized in alphabetical order and has more than 800 pages of information.
If you ever wondered what fish sauce was, then you'd find out here.
What the heck is Gulab Jamun? Well, apparently it's something delicious!
That looks scary, but now that've read it's a fried dough with a sweet syrup, then let's get some! Fried milk balls! YUM! Those don't look so bad...
At the end, it has a bunch of charts and information that might come in handy. From metric conversions, temperature info, to Ingredient Substitutions...
or how much batter to put in a pan....
to a bunch of other stuff.
So get yourself a copy and start learning today. It will be the best $11.55 you ever spent!
¡Buen provecho!
This looks like a cool book - I will have to check out whether it is in print in the UK - not that i (strictly) need yet another book on food - but what the heck!

Does Amazon deliver to the UK? It has to. It's an awesome book. If they did a picture version of it, it'd be even awesomer! Don't think awesomer is a word, but yeah. Oh, and thanks for reading all the way from the UK. :) How'd you find us?

Oh, and as for too many cook books, I should post a picture of the 3 book shelves full of books and magazines, all food related. Mildly crazy. ;)
