Rambles: I think I'm turning Japonés

Who got our inside joke that inspired the subject? Anyone recall The Vapor's hit "Tuning Japanese?" Did we just reveal our possible age? Oki doki. Moving on... Another new category: Rambles! Yes, we like to ramble. So here we go... Let's get ready to RRRRAAAAMMMBLEEEEE!!! Hope we don't get sued. Get it? Get it? Oh well... Back to rambling...

The site meter on the page not only tells us how many visitors we get, but also what country or state they log in from, and sometimes even the words they used on a search engine (usually Google) to get to our site. Now DON'T FREAK OUT. Chillax. No worries. This ain't Big Brother. And we don't assist the Department of Homeland Security with tracking people. It gives us no private info. Just geographical and if you arrived from a search engine. It helps us make our site more accessible and lets us know what people want to read or see, so don't fear the site meter. =)

Jangeo: Via Appia's Deli

New category!!!  HANGEO!!!   It's not about cooking or rating a spot. It's just about where we go with friends to hang out. Chances are this and all hangeos feature drinks and some moncheo. Some or most will be rated. But we won't rate until we have a full meal there. But if it's got some good grub and drinks and you can chill there for a while, then we'll include it in the HANGEO category. This week el hangeo found us at...

... Via Appia's Deli. This Italian-inspired spot has been in Condado, on Ashford Avenue, since we were little kids. More than 20 years old, this place is definitely a hangout spot.

Cocinando: All'Amatriciana

We LOVE Bucatini all'Amatriciana. We love it so much we'd bathe ourselves in it. Really.

We first had it at Mario Batali's Lupa in NYC. It was, to say the least, one of the most bangin' pasta dishes we've had! (Next to our own creations. Of course.) To this day it's one of our favorite pastas, along with Carbonara, Lasagna, and all those other low-cal, low-fat pasta dishes the world has to offer.

Moncheo: El Caldero Sabroso

A few posts back we mentioned a place in Old San Juan we had been dying to go eat at called El Caldero Sabroso. Well, we hadn't mentioned the name per se, just the spot. Both times they had been closed. But to their credit, it was pretty late in the evening. It's located on 366 San Francisco Street, between O'Donnell & Tanca streets, and less than a block from Plaza Colón.

Cocinando: Got Some Extra Butt?

So what to do with such a large butt? And you do know I mean the pork butt we smoked a while back, right? 'Cause let's not get personal and start judging each others' butts. That's an entirely different blog buddy!

So one way to improvise and take leftovers and kick 'em up a notch (unintentional ode to Emeril there) is by doing what we like to do every now and then with chili and other toppings; we make LOADED POTATOES.

Moncheo: The Pink Skirt

When we lived in NYC it was always nice to know that when you're out late or feel like some Chicken Fingers or a Burger or a Salad (yeah, right) @ 3:02am you know there's a 24 hour place to go to and get some grub. Face it, working in restaurants makes you adapt your life to a different schedule than - let's say - 90% of the workforce. In the world. Yes, these are very scientific numbers. But yeah, that 9-5 gig is basically an urban legend in the restaurant world. Or at least a rare sight. Unless you're a bread baker. Even then it's pretty much the same crazy schedule, but flipped around.

Moncheo: Jose Enrique

We first visited Jose Enrique's spot in Santurce while out around La Plazita a few months ago. We had left the usual revolú (clustermess) of La Plazita @ Calle Canals and walked over to Jose Enrique's spot on the corner of Duffaut & Orbeta Streets. We knew we had found an awesome spot when we heard the groovy reggae beats coming from inside. We opened the doors and entered what has become one of our favorite places in Puerto Rico: Jose Enrique. That night we also had the luck and pleasure of meeting an extremely talented young man: DJ Velcro (Andrés). He was the artist responsible for the great beats playing and to which everyone was dancing to. As we got to know the people there we found out Jose Enrique was actually a restaurant. We met Jose that night as well, learned a little bit about his background and food, and vowed to come and try out his food. We're so glad we finally got the chance.
